Description

Freshwater mussels are amongst the most important, most imperiled, and most overlooked organisms in the United States today. As the ‘livers of the rivers,’ we depend on mussels as a natural filtration system for our flowing waterways. At the Forest Preserve District of DuPage Countys’ Urban Stream Research Center, efforts to propagate mussels and other endangered aquatic organisms are now in their second decade. Andres Ortega, Aquatic Resources Supervisor at the USRC will describe the work they do there, the impact they’ve made on aquatic ecosystem health in the region, and what we can all do to improve our aquatic environments.

All ages, registration is required.  $3 members/ $5 general admission (food and drink not included in admission).
